Fields joined the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal in 1963 and was assigned to the newspaper's Jackson bureau in 1975. For more than a decade, she covered the Mississippi Legislature, statewide elected officials and state agencies with meticulous reporting and an unwavering commitment to public accountability. Her investigations into government spending, contracting practices and ethics exposed waste and mismanagement, earning the respect of colleagues and readers alike.
