Rubye Del Harden



The Itawamba County Times

Inducted June 22, 2007


From 1977-1999, Harden was publisher of The Itawamba County Times in Fulton. Her father, Delmus C. Harden, bought the paper in 1945 when his daughter was only a year old. The elder Harden was one of the original eight men inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1986.

She is also president of RESULTS, Inc., a consulting firm founded in 1980 to facilitate community leadership programs.

Harden is past president of MPA and served on its board of directors for nine years. She received the University of Southern Mississippi Medalist Award for Excellence in Journalism in 1987 and the Mississippi University for Women Silver Inky Journalism Award in 1989. During her tenure as publisher of The Times, her newspaper won more than 100 first place awards in the MPA Better Newspaper Contest and repeatedly won the General Excellence award for best large weekly newspaper. In 1995, she received the Silver Medal Award for outstanding career in advertising from the American Advertising Federation.

Harden is a past president of the Itawamba County Development Council and was the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from the organization in 1990. In 1998, she was honored as the Mississippi Economic Development Volunteer of the Year.

She is a Rotarian and served as a charter member of the Commission on the Future of Northeast Mississippi. She has served as co-chairman of the steering committee of the Leadership Itawamba program since its inception in 1986.
She holds an undergraduate and masters degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and continued graduate work at Auburn.
