» Owen Lusk, a longtime newspaper publisher and advertising executive, died June 2. He was 91. A past president of Mississippi Press, Lusk began his career as a paper boy for his hometown newspaper, The Bolivar Commercial in Cleveland. He later served as publisher of The Magee Courier and the Simpson County News.

» Kate Royals has been promoted to managing editor of Jackson-based Mississippi Today. Royals joined the non-profit publication in 2016 from the Clarion Ledger. The news site also announced a series of other leadership changes and newsrooms additions. 

» Jackson-based Emmerich Newspapers has announced transitions for its publications in Clarksdale, Union, Senatobia, and Tallulah, La. Longtime Clarksdale Press-Register Editor and Publisher Floyd Ingram has taken the same position with the Tate Record in Senatobia. Succeeding him in Clarksdale is Josh Troy, who formerly worked for the Enterprise-Journal in McComb as a sports reporter and as editor of the Madison Journal in Tallulah. Former Newton County Appeal Editor and Publisher Timothy Holdiness has transitioned to the same role at the Madison Journal. Meanwhile, Kristina Leach has been named publisher of the Appeal, where she was formerly and advertising representative.
