Becoming a Member
Membership in the Mississippi Press Association is divided into four main classes. Prospective members apply to the Association and remit all necessary fees before their application is considered. Applications are reviewed during quarterly meetings of the MPA Membership Committee which makes recommendations for final approval to the MPA-MPS Board of Directors. To apply for any class of membership, click on the links below to download an application and return it by the following quarterly deadlines for consideration at the next regularly-scheduled meeting of the Membership Committee: March 31, May 31, Sept. 30 or Dec. 31.
Full Active Membership is reserved for in-state newspapers publishing at least once weekly and which meet all criteria as defined by the Association By-laws. Newspapers meeting all criteria and which have been publishing at least weekly for at least one full year (12 months) may apply to the Association for membership. Membership entitles the newspaper to participate in a host of MPA programs, including advertising representation, conferences, annual internships, contests, the legal hotline and more. Download a membership application for MPA Full Active Membership or click hereto learn more about Member Benefits.
Publications and periodicals which do not meet all criteria for Full Active status are encouraged to apply for Affiliate Membership. Affiliates may take part in many of the benefits of Association membership, including participation in MPS advertising programs, the legal hotline, committee service and attending conferences and the annual convention at member rates. They are not eligible for voting rights in MPA-MPS business affairs, nor may they take part in the annual Better Newspaper Contests. To apply for Affiliate Membership, download an application.
Newspapers published outside of Mississippi but wishing to apply for membership within the Association may do so under the Extra-Regional classification. For more information or to make application, contact the Association.
The Associate Membership classification exists for businesses and individuals who wish to cultivate or extend a relationship with the newspaper industry in Mississippi. The classification includes vendors, suppliers and friends of the industry who want to establish and maintain contacts with the decision makers at over 120 publications statewide. Benefits include participation in MPA events at member rates and the opportunity to meet editors and publishers of newspapers from Corinth to Bay St. Louis and everywhere in between.
