Paid online copies can be claimed on 2012 ownership statement
A reminder your Statements of Ownership, Management & Circulation are due to your local postmaster by Oct. 1. New this year is inclusion of online subscriptions as part of your overall paid distribution.
But there are caveats: A paid subscriber, electronic or print, may only be counted once. A print subscriber with free access to the electronic version of your paper cannot be counted as a paid online subscriber.
To be considered a paid electronic subscriber, a reader must pay more than a nominal rate for the subscription.
To claim e-subscriptions, you must fill out a revised (August 2012) Form PS-3526. If you're not using the updated form, you will not be able to count your e-subscribers. You should use the worksheet PS-3526x to properly figure your paid print and online distribution.
If you do not intend to claim e-subscriptions in your distribution figures, older versions of PS-3526 will be adequate for submission.
Anyone publishing more than once a week should run the statement no later than October 10. Weekly newspapers must publish by Oct. 31.
A current ownership statement is a requirement for membership in MPA. Your ownership statement is used to update circulation statistics which MPS uses as verification of distribution for marketing purposes. These are also the figures that will be used for the 2013 Newspaper Directory.
