Ramsey honoree for 2017 Celebrity Roast

The longtime editorial cartoonist for The Clarion-Ledger will be roasted by the state press association at a January benefit for its education foundation.
Marshall Ramsey, who joined The Clarion-Ledger 20 years ago as cartoonist, will join the ranks of other Mississippians such as former Gov. Haley Barbour, entertainer Jerry Clower, journalist Rick Cleveland, and former state Supreme Court Justice Reuben Anderson in being roasted to benefit the MPA Education Foundation.
The event will be held Jan. 26 at the Hilton Jackson at the outset of MPA’s Mid-Winter Conference.
Panelists for the event include Rep. Steve Holland, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, and former Clarion-Ledger Editorial Director David Hampton, among others.
Ramsey, a native of Georgia, is an honors graduate of the University of Tennessee. A two-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Ramsey is also a host for Mississippi Public Broadcasting and MPB Think Radio.
His cartoons are nationally syndicated and he has authored two books. A cancer survivor, he has been honored by the Melanoma Research Foundation and the American Cancer Society for his efforts to raise awareness and funds for research.
He is a frequent speaker and entertainer at events around Mississippi.

MPAEF was founded in 1983 to fund scholarships and internships for in-state students of journalism and communications. Founded in 1866 and celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2016, MPA is the trade association for 110 member newspapers and affiliated digital media in Mississippi.
