The Delta Democrat Times, a daily newspaper in Greenville, Mississippi, is looking for a quality-obsessed, hands-on production manager who can also serve as head pressman for our small Urbanite crew. We are looking for someone who is technically oriented, cares about quality and can run the press. We have a new Screen CTP, computerized CC1 closed loop registration, automated plate bending, new slot locks and state-of-the-art prepress registration controls. We want someone who can make this fancy equipment hum and make this newspaper plant run like a commercial plant. Our ideal production manager should be able to implement a regular maintenance program and regular plate and press calibrations using densitometers.

The Qualified candidate must be able to work with people and manage and motivate the press crew. Urbanite and good computer skills a plus. The press prints several other inter-company twice-weeklies and weeklies and is looking to expand our commercial business. Pay range is 45k-55k based on experience. The Scott County Times in Forest, Miss., is seeking a staff writer and paginator. Duties include managing submitted copy and ensuring it is published in a timely manner, generating six to eight stories per week including news, but also centering on weekly human-interest features, and building and composing inside pages for publication.

Good writing skills, an eye for design, an ability to write both news and human interest features, being deadline driven, an ability to take well composed photographs, and some experience with pagination and layout software are ideal qualifications.

A background in printing, a college degree in design, journalism, English, arts or humanities are also acceptable qualifications. Position pays approximately $20,000 per year.
