The Laurel Leader-Call, a seven-day a week daily located in the heart of the
Miss. Pine Belt, is seeking a sports editor with the drive, leadership, and
skills to cover some of the best sports in South Mississippi. The
Leader-Call circulates throughout Jones County and outlying areas of Wayne,  Jasper and Covington counties. This area has perennial championship high school teams (Laurel H.S. 4A football champs in 2007, Wayne Co. H.S. 4A football champs 2005, 2006). Football fans are passionate about their high school teams in this area, eagerly anticipating their daily dose of prep sports coverage. The Leader-Call also covers in depth Jones County Junior College, the University of Southern Mississippi, and William Carey University. The sports editor responsibilities include managing a four-person sports staff, writing sports stories, columns, editing and laying out the sports pages. There are also multi-media opportunities with more sports coverage posted on our website. We are seeking a seasoned sports editor or a veteran sports writer looking for additional responsibilities.

The Starkville Daily News, a daily Horizon Publications newspaper, is
seeking an Sports editor with the vision, skill, passion and leadership to
help make our good sports coverage great. The Starkville Daily circulates
throughout Oktibbeha County, a place where college and high school football
is practically a religion. That passion spills over into each community’s
other prep sports, making for a primed readership that is always hungry for

seeks a full-time sports editor to cover athletics in the Arkansas River
Valley.
The Courier covers 10 area high schools spanning several classifications as
well as Arkansas Tech, a member of NCAA Division II. Russellville is perfect
for the outdoor enthusiast, offering breathtaking scenery as well as the
opportunity to hunt, fish, hike — you name it.
The ideal candidate is an energetic self-starter with a passion for local
sports. Qualifications include: A good work ethic, being familiar with a
Macintosh environment, Newsedit Pro and QuarkXpress are a plus. AP style
familiarity is also a plus. A bachelor’s degree in journalism is preferred.
Candidates must have good communication skills and possess the ability to
work under deadlines in a creative and fast-paced environment.

The Pine Bluff (AR) Commercial, a member of Stephens Media, is seeking a  Sports Editor  to manage our Sports Department. The ideal candidate will be adept at layout, packaging and editing and should have strong headline, copy editing skills and a good command of the English language and Associated Press style. Pagination skills (InDesign) a must. Night and weekend work probable.

The Sports Editor will manage prep and college coverage in our circulation area. In addition, the Sports Editor will develop timely hunting and fishing features.

The Commercial has a circulation of approximately 16,000 and is published 7 mornings a week. Circulation covers an eight-county area.

Pine Bluff is the hub of Southeast Arkansas located approximately 40 miles south of Little Rock.  Abundant hunting and fishing opportunities are just short drives away. Pine Bluff is home to the University of Arkansas/Pine Bluff and SEARK College.
