General Manager, Monroe County Journal, NE Mississippi

The Monroe County Journal, a weekly newspaper in Northeast Mississippi, is looking for a general manager to join our organization. The general manager will be responsible for directing, administering and coordinating overall weekly operation. The ideal candidate must be motivated, ambitious and customer oriented with previous management experience.

Primary responsibilities include: Responsible with JPC Executive Editor for editorial leadership; Responsible with JPC Advertising Director for sales development of The Monroe County Journal in order to increase advertising market share; Responsible with JPC Circulation Manager to ensure circulation sales plans are designed to increase household penetration and readership, as well as retention efforts; Provides leadership to ensure extraordinary support and customer service, including providing timely decision making and effective implementation of plans, as well as building community throughout Monroe County.

Must have ability to self-start and work with minimum supervision against tight deadlines. Benefits include paid vacation, 401K, health, and a very competitive compensation plan. The Monroe County Journal is owned by Journal Publishing Company in Tupelo, Miss., and is a merged product of The Amory Advertiser and The Aberdeen Examiner.

The right candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and a strong newspaper marketing background with a minimum of 5 years experience in newspaper / media management and sales. Additionally, this opportunity will provide the right individual to expand and develop their skills in interactive publishing. Position will supervise editorial, circulation and marketing. Douglas County is conveniently located 35-minutes west of downtown Atlanta, GA and home to a strong retail base as well as an attractive housing market.
