I am a freelance writer specializing in current events and the history
of ideas, and am interested in writing a regular opinion column on
public policy issues. I have 9.5 years of experience as a full-time
writer, am author or coauthor of 24 nonfiction books on a wide range
of topics (past clients include Facts on File, the University Press of
Mississippi, and McGraw-Hill Publications), cover civil liberties for
the New York Times Company’s online About.com division, and serve on
the boards of several major nonprofit advocacy organizations. I hold
an M.A. in humanities and am currently a Ph.D. candidate in
interdisciplinary studies, focusing on the history of ideas. I will
