Seeking Position
Journalist with experience as editor, photographer, graphic artist, paginator seeking position. Willing to relocate. Full resume and portfolio available upon request. Brief bio follows:
Marsha Allen began her writing career as a copywriter for a major department store in Memphis, Tennessee. There she also served as a display marketing designer, fashion coordinator, fashion show commentator and runway model for Memphis area fashion shows.
Subsequently she joined The United States Marine Corps and served as a photojournalist, public information officer to Director of Division of Information at Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington D.C. where she wrote news releases for The Washington Post and other Capitol Hill publications, winning several awards and commendations for literature and graphic design materials she produced. She successfully completed military photojournalism school at The Defense Information School in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the Marine Corps Leadership and Instructor Training School, Quantico, Virginia.
She continued working as a freelance writer and graphic artist while married to a career Marine, eventually earning two degrees and later a third. She freelanced designs for such operations as The Bob Hope USO in Los Angeles and assisted photographer husband with his official duties to the film industry in Los Angeles.
After returning to Arkansas she worked as a copywriter for M.M.Cohn Department Store, copy director for the former Magic Mart retail discount enterprise, served as journalist and graphic artist for The Arkansas Democrat and business writer for the former Arkansas Gazette. She also worked as graphic artist for Singer-Allen (Hughes), an aerospace military defense contract enterprise located at The Little Rock Air Force Base, Jacksonville, Arkansas. In addition she served as a technical writer and house organ editor for a manufacturing firm in Little Rock and as contract labor technical writer to British Airways. She served as lifestyle editor and photographer, page designer for The Sun-Times, Heber Springs where she won numerous Arkansas Press Association awards and first place wins for writing and design. She also served as lifestyle editor, photographer, page designer for The Big Spring Herald, Big Spring, Texas.
