Update on this column. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that employees have a presumption of privacy with text messages and e-mails even while using company accounts in the private sector, "although company policies that spell out the authority to read those e-mails would eliminate the expectation of privacy". The case is Quon v. Arch Wireless Operating Co. Inc., No. 07-55282. This article in the National Law Review by Pamela A. MacLean tells about it: Workers' text messages are private. The ruling uses the Stored Communications Act I mentioned in the column. Again, this is private sector and not public sector government communications, but it could indicate the judiciary's thoughts on this matter in the future.

Just in case anybody reads this story (and this has been pointed out to the author) medical care in Tunica County is not free to most residents. It is not free to any residents as far as we know.

Thank you for posting the news of my dad's death. He was totally committed to high school and local sports for his entire life as well as to college and professional sports. His writing seems to have inspired several generations of athletes who never dreamed they could truly compete. The family appreciates all the kind thoughts that have been expressed since his death.

This thing called Cotton Mouth is the place to be if you're a progressive in Mississippi, or even if you're just a plain old Democrat. You can check it out at cottonmouthblog.com. We're averaging about 2500 hits a week and we're on week 3. We're the MS sources for the most influential national blogs around the country.

The definition of a debate is " the formal discussion of a topic between two or more opposing speakers. "

At no point will both Gov. Barbour and John Arthur Eaves appear on the same stage with each other. Thus eliminating that "opposing speakers" part. It's a series of speeches. We've seen the letter.

And we don't do breathless.
