Post-Convention: Gubernatorial notebook

From The Clarion-Ledger: “The leading Democrat for governor, John Arthur Eaves Jr. unveiled Friday a $20 million plan to cover health care for uninsured Mississippi children.”

The Associated Press: “On Friday, Eaves said: ‘As governor, we will pass laws that will say no matter who you are, no matter if you are the CEO of Exxon, if you price gouge and take advantage of Mississippians, we’re going to give you some jail time.’ Later, Gov. Haley Barbour was asked to respond. ‘We ought to jail the newspaper publishers first. Y’all all got monopolies,’ Barbour said to laughter from the MPA audience. ‘I think that makes about as much sense as the other suggestion.’”

The Madison County Journal has a great editorial on the contrasts between Eaves and Barbour at the Press Convention.
