The Press Association’s Education Foundation annually sponsors internships at newspapers throughout the state. The Scott County Times tells a bit about the aspiring journalist at work on its staff this summer.

Charlie Mitchell of The Vicksburg Post on “Sunshine” wins: “There have been two situations in recent months where Mississippians, as a people, have gotten some respect. The scary thing is how the Legislature might react.”

Patsy Brumfield of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal on economic development in the region: “West Point has been under stress economically in recent years. This latest news means many people can find meaningful work and financial security again. That certainly is a good thing for our region. As I reflected upon this news, I thought back to economic development announcements of the past year or so…”

Something called the Cotton Mouth blog breathlessly reports: “After years of having a governors debate in the year of statewide elections, the Mississippi Press Association will NOT offer a debate as previously planned between candidates Haley Barbour and John Arthur Eaves.”

The non-debate gets underway at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 22.
