State Farm issue put to readers

The Hattiesburg American has started a conversation between its readers regarding State Farm’s announced decision to discontinue writing new homeowner policies in Mississippi. The Sun Herald has its own page on sunherald.com, too.

Buddy’s law dies

Bills to toughen animal cruelty laws championed by The Mississippi Press in Pascagoula/Gautier died in the House of Representatives over the past week.

Publisher Wanda Jacobs told committee members that the paper received more than three dozen letters to the editor in response to an article about Buddy last year. The paper collected more than $3,000 in reward money from local readers, as well as more than 12,000 signatures on a petition demanding stronger laws.
