Slimp: What have they done to my InDesign?

I’ve been reading with interest all articles and reviews of Adobe’s CS3, shipping now in April. Kevin Slimp has the following in his latest newsletter:

Some Apple notebooks plagued by battery issues

Apple has said some notebooks MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks sold worldwide from February 2006 and April 2007 may have battery performance issues , but they do not pose a safety risk.

Apple said problems with affected batteries include not charging when the computer is plugged into an outlet.

New e-mail scam: Pay up or get killed

The FBI is investigating a new scam aimed at extorting tens of thousands of dollars from wealthy professionals.

Wealthy professionals are being hit this week with a new e-mail extortion scam that’s set up to appear to be assassins who will murder the recipient if he or she doesn’t send them thousands of dollars.This new wave of e-mail extortion began at the beginning of the week, according to Don Jackson, a researcher at SecureWorks. The e-mails have an air of legitimacy because they come from valid e-mail accounts, instead of spoofed “from” addresses.

And if that isn’t enough to worry the people being extorted, if they reply to the e-mails, the scammer actually responds with personal information about the victim, according to SecureWorks. [Full story]

Google adds a presentation app to its office suite

from MacWorld: Google is adding a presentations application to Docs & Spreadsheets, narrowing the competitive space between this productivity and collaboration hosted suite and Microsoft’s Office suite.

Now, Docs & Spreadsheets will feature a word processor, a spreadsheet and a presentations application, but Schmidt said the suite isn’t a direct competitor to Office, because Docs & Spreadsheets doesn’t have all of Office’s functionality and it’s more focused on Web collaboration than Office, which is a desktop-centric product.
