How many technologies have lasted 50 years?
My first PC was an XT clone with 2 - count ‘em - 5.25 floppy drives and a 2400 baud modem. It was a major purchase at the time, and replaced my Timex Sinclair (you know, the one with the cassette drive?)
Not long after that, I installed a 10MB hard drive. Room, at last.
But that was nearly 30 years after the actual invention of the hard drive. Check it out:
The Computer History Museum celebrated the 50th anniversary of the hard drive today.
